Hands and feet..!

Thank you to everybody who came to the lecture at Camberwell art school I spoke at last night. Tonight I’ll be at the Candid arts centre in Isligton as I’ve been nominated for the creative enterprise award once again…

Filmed in my studio in Berlin. The source material was provided, so an added challenge – the figure is not particularly representative of my work’s current path but is a comprehensive expose of the process of completing a quick study (just under two hours). More fun than being sold more stuff, for sure. I had just rolled out of an aeroplane. Enjoy.

June saw 3 works in IKAS art, Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Baracaldo, Spain (also published in IKAS 2010 book). I have never exhibited photography in a group show before so slightly exotic move, I wish I could have made it over. Looked to be a great show.

I’m still showing in the Lunasol Gallery in Berlin’s Kunsthaus Tacheles, but it’s going to be completely shaken up with new work when I return to Berlin in a week.

The UdK Rundgang 2010. I was showing in Raum 146 with artists Thibault Bourgoing & Marc Siebenhüner (special boys!)

Ours was one of the least ‘decorated’ rooms; lacking strobe lighting, music, a bar. We just cleaned the room and hung our paintings, a surprisingly unconventional approach. The reason rooms are cleared beforehand is surely to avoid distraction of attention to the art, so to add sensory clutter like disco balls and DJs (without connection to the work but in the same space) feels like a step backwards. If the props attracted, I question how many of them just wanted a drink, and if the distractions for some where just a product of confusion or insecurity. Surely, the art should speak for itself. To put it another way, I would rather have few people who want to experience painting than a crowd who want to buy beers and leave. The turnout, incidentally, was sensational. Berlin you never cease to amaze

My work chosen by Rundgang curators are below: ‘My blood knows the way from my heart to my brain’ (x2) and ‘Ohne Titel’.

If you’re closer to home, my paintings titled ‘you are the company you keep’, ‘Toby’ and ‘Art Slave’ are on exhibition at Victoria House in central London, near the British Museum/Oxford st, until 18th December.

Massive thanks to The Enterprise Centre for the Creative Arts for awarding me with the Creative Enterprise award: ‘successful freelancer’. Very humbling and, I have to admit, a little unexpected – the nominees were incredible… http://www.ecca-london.org/events/entweek/enterpriseweek2009/creativeenterpriseawards/. If anyone managed to get a photo of me at the ceremony holding the champagne & wearing my bin-liner, they would be much appreciated.

Still polishing off the new website. It’s turning out to be an art in itself. Blimey. Let me know your thoughts? I am aware it looks like it’s been pushed though a mincing machine on small monitors. Bear with.

Here’s a new painting. “Fate”.

A quick playabout in canvas panel (inspired by recent Street Training session), which despite it’s personal record breaking speed of execution, harnessed some energy from it’s pace which I think fits the image. Happy days.

This is my first oil painting, the big turning point, age 18.
